Italy’s new Government

After the collapse of Giuseppe Conte’s cabinet, President Mattarella appointed former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi as Prime Minister, tasking him with guiding a National Unity Government.

Draghi’s cabinet - that sworn on 13 February 2021 - is made up of 15 politicians and 8 independent technocrats and it is supported by a large majority of the Italian Parliament.

The new Government’s immediate priorities will be the health and economic crises related to the covid-19 pandemic and the drafting of coronavirus recovery plans.

Draghi’s administration guidelines will also focus on ecological transition and on digital reformations.

Among the high profile technicians chosen by President Draghi, Prefect Luciana Lamorgese has been confirmed as chief of the Interior Ministry which she is been guiding from 5 September 2019.

During her long and prestigious career, she directed very important offices, such as Venice and Milan Prefectures and she was also appointed head of cabinet of the Interior Ministry.

As Interior Minister, thanks to her hard work and her great mediation skills, she successfully managed the spiny question of migratory flows as well as the internal tensions and the social emergencies caused by the economic crisis due to the pandemic.

Moreover, she has always been a friend of ANFACI and of the EASTR, that wish her all the best in her work.
